Monmouth Park is hosting a 12-race card on Preakness Day, and though it was supposed to be the first day of turf racing the wet weather here over the past week or so meant that the course will get an extra day of rest, at least.

The 7th race, originally drawn with seven horses (six betting interest), scratched down to four runners, presumably because they were all afraid of So Much Love, and that makes it kind of a weak betting race in the middle of the Pick 5 and Place Pick 6.

The 8th is off the turf, as is the 11th race, the Elkwood Stakes. The talk yesterday was that the 8th was definitely off but the Elkwood would stay on the grass but after a walkthrough today it seems the course was too wet from the weeklong rains we had. The 8th now looks like it's between Timeless Classic and Dubai Gold, and though I originally liked the latter the former may now hold a pace advantage.

Even though the Elkwood is off the turf Get Serious is still the horse to beat. He's won on the main track before and he's proven on a wet track. He also looms the controlling speed in here.

Three scratches (#3 Spiritual Tune, #7 Forensic Edge and #9 Merlot Dreams) reduced the 12th race to six runners and it does seem light on pace, which moves Cherokee Champion up. She's a horse I didn't particularly like but the new pace scenario seems to favor those runners with a little speed.
