Louisiana Downs: Sword Trick seeks to remain perfect

Sword Trick, an undefeated stakes winner, will attempt to remain perfect in the upcoming $50,000 Sunny’s Halo for 2-year-olds at seven and a half furlongs on turf at Louisiana Downs. He romped by more than eight lengths in a division of the $100,000 Texas Stallion Stakes at Lone Star Park in his last start July 9, and will be stretching out to two turns for the first time in the Sunny’s Halo.

“We know he’s very talented,” said Bret Calhoun, who trains Sword Trick for Clarence Scharbauer. “He’s shown a lot of class in the mornings and the afternoons. This is a smart horse and he seems like he’ll turn off if you need him to.”

As for the turf test, Calhoun said Sword Trick gets some pedigree support for the grass from his dam’s sire, Hadif.

Sword Trick, a son of Early Flyer who is 2-for-2, was voted the 2-year-old of the meet at Lone Star Park.
