Louisiana Downs: Super Derby on Saturday


Prayer for Relief has been made the 9-5 morning-line favorite for the Grade 2, $500,000 Super Derby, which will be run for the 32nd time Saturday at Louisiana Downs. The race is one of six stakes on a 13-race program that has a special early post of 12:15 p.m. Central. There is also a $100,000 guaranteed pick four on races 9-12. The sequence is made up of stakes, with its third leg, the Super Derby, going as the 11th race on Saturday.

Louisiana Downs has planned some notable ontrack activities in advance of the first race. There will be a meet and greet with jockeys at 11:15 a.m., said Trent McIntosh, director of operations for Louisiana Downs. Around the same time, Louisiana Downs track announcer Travis Stone will lead a handicapping seminar. There is also a Super Derby had contest later in the day Saturday, with registration for the event running from 2-4 p.m.

The stakes action Saturday starts with the seventh race, the $100,000 Happy Ticket for 2-year-old fillies. It has a post of 3 p.m.
