Louisiana Downs: Prep for Super Derby on Saturday


Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, La., will be running its annual Super Derby prep, the $100,000 Prelude, on this afternoon's card. In all there are four stakes on the program that starts at 1:25 p.m. Central. The stakes are worth a cumulative $250,000 and are designed as preps for the stakes on the Super Derby Day card Sept. 10.

The temperature right now in Bossier City is 100 degrees, according to weather.com. The high is scheduled for 103. Throughout the afternoon, DRF will pass along trainer comments on some of the stakes starters running Saturday. They will be available through the Inside Post blog. Below are the stakes scratches:

The first stakes on the card is the $50,000 Donnie Wilhite Memorial for 2-year-old fillies at seven and a half furlongs on turf. It will go as the sixth race, with a scheduled post of 3:32 p.m. Central. There is one scratch to report, No. 7, MAIS OUI. 

The second stakes, the $50,000 Sunny's Halo for 2-year-olds at seven and a half furlongs on turf is the eighth race. Scratch No. 9, WHISKEY DOUBLE, and No. 11, PRYCE'S POSSE. 

The Prelude goes as the ninth race with a scheduled post of 4:59 p.m. Central. There are no scratches to report at this time. The filed of 11 includes stakes winners Trubs, Populist Politics, Soaring Native and Get in Da House. In addition, sharp maiden winner Eddie's Band will make his stakes debut for trainer Morris Nicks after winning his maiden with a Beyer Figure of 102.

In the final stakes, the $50,000 Barksdale for 3-year-olds and up at a mile on turf, scratch No. 11, SLIGO JOE.
