Lone Star: Notable turf performances

There were a couple of notable turf performances on the card. In the third race, Yankee Gone South won his second straight race in the first-level allowance at five furlongs on turf. He covered the distance in a sharp 55.43 seconds. Yankee Gone South won by four lengths, one start after taking a maiden special weight by 12 lengths over Lone Star Park's main track April 22. Cliff Berry was aboard for both wins for trainer Bret Calhoun.

The Cat Who won the featured sixth race, a seven and a half furlong turf allowance for statebred fillies and mares, by a length and a quarter. She set a quick pace, leading through six fulrongs in 1:10.53, and went on to cover the distance in 1:28.82. Luis Quinonez was aboard for trainer Sarah Davidson.

The Cat Who came into the race off a third-place finish in the $50,000 Irving Distaff at Lone Star on April 23.
