Lone Star: Miss Kipling Runs to Works

Miss Kipling ($5) ran to her sharp worktab in the third race, when she won her debut in a maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies over five and a half furlongs. She came into the race off a 46.80 move from the gate, which was the fastest of 17 drills at the distance July 1. And it came on a track rated good. Prior to that, Miss Kipling breezed five furlongs from the gate in a bullet 1:01.60. Cliff Berry was aboard Sunday for leading trainer Bret Calhoun.

The track is fast this afternoon after a week of wet weather, while the turf course is listed as good, an upgrade over yesterday's yielding surface. It is a very hot afternoon, with the sun beating down and temperatures in the 90s.

In the upcoming fourth race, scratch No. 6, Sand Ridge Express; in the fifth take out No. 5, Valid Committment, and in the ninth scratch No. 5, Sandyrockstar.
