Lone Star: The latest 'Coyote' wins

The mare Coyote Cafe, who has produced such stakes winners as Gold Coyote ($445K) and Coyote Legend ($351K), had her latest winner Sunday afternoon in the fifth race at Lone Star, when Coyote Canyon won a maiden special weight for 2-year-olds. Roman Chapa was aboard for Clarence Scharbauer Jr. and trainer Bret Calhoun. Coyote Canyon, who is by Gold Legend, paid $5.80.

Coyote Canyon was making the second start of his career. He had run fifth in his debut in a May 12 maiden special weight at Lone Star that has now produced four next-out winners. The others have been the winner of the race, Lil Cherokee, who came back in his next start to win a division of the Texas Thoroughbred Association Sales Futurity with a Beyer Figure of 80; the runner-up, King Coral, who returned to take a maiden special weight at Lone Star, with a Beyer of 68; and the fourth-place finisher, Storm's Promise, a $25,000 maiden claiming race,  also at Lone Star, with a Beyer of 51.
