Lone Star: Key Baby Race?

Gone Rebel ($7.20) was a strong winner of the second, a maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies that might prove to be a productive race for both the performances of some of its starters and their useful pedigrees. In addition, a number of the starters were foaled in January or February, giving them an age edge on their peers.

Gone Rebel, who is one of those January foals, is a half-sister to Rebel Queen, who was placed in two stakes at 2. Chris Landeros was aboard for trainer Michael Stewart. Gone Rebel is a daughter of Macabe and was bred in Louisiana.

Lahaiana Miss was the favorite and finished third, but galloped out very strongly after breaknig inward at the start. Needadrink, who broke form the rail, finished second and is a nice-looking daughter of Fire Slam.

In changes for upcoming races on this cloudy afternoon in the 60s, note Erik McNeil will ride No. 1, Quiet Domination, in the sixth race; Little Turtle, No. 6, has been scratched out of the eighth race; and Western Forum, No. 10, has been scratched from race nine.
