Lone Star: Juvenile romps by seven

Email

Worthington ($3.20) looked good in the third race, when he pulled away to a seven-length win in a $20,000 maiden claiming sprint for 2-year-olds bred in Texas. Cliff Berry was aboard, one of three winners he has had through the first four races on the card.

Worthington took quick command of the five furlong race, which he won in 58.57 seconds. He is a son of the Storm Cat stallion Western Gambler, while his third dam produced Lunar Bounty, a past winner of the Grade 2 Bashford Manor.

Worthington finished clear of runner-up Cowtown Panther, who was the lone horse claimed from the race Thursday. The new owner of Cowtown Panther is Donna Eaton and the trainer, Joyce Salisbury.
