Lone Star: Contreras back riding

Jockey Alfredo Contreras is back riding tonight at Lone Star Park after a Saturday incident behind the starting gate in which he was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. Contreras’ mount tried to flip, knocked the rider in the chest, and threw him. He was released Saturday night, but did not ride here Sunday.

“We thought we’d just give him a day to kind of heal up a bit,” said Richard Ketner, who is Contreras' agent. “The biggest thing is he was hit real hard in the chest. It took his air away from him.”

Contreras, who was back getting on horses Tuesday, is the ninth leading rider this meet at Lone Star.
