Lone Star: Chapa wins Texas return

Jockey Roman Chapa won with his first Texas starter since 2007 on Friday night, when he guided It's An Adventure($3) to victory in a maiden claiming sprint for 2-year-olds. Chapa, 39, had been suspended five years by the New Mexico Racing Commission back in 2007, when he was found to be in possesion of an electrical device.

Last month, the New Mexico panel approved him for a conditional jockey's license. He still has about 14 months left on his initial suspension, and will be licensed on probation for the remainder of that term. Chapa resumed race riding the last week of May in New Mexico, and won with his second mount back in a trial for Quarter Horses. He won another race at Ruidoso on May 29.

Chapa is named on three horses Friday night at Lone Star, with his other mounts coming in the third and fifth races. His win aboard It's An Adventure came for Danny Pish.

Earlier in his career, Chapa won the title at the Fair Grounds meet held at Louisiana Downs in 2005-2006. He also has won riding championships at Retama Park and Zia Park.
