The main track is fast today but the turf course is yielding, and the only race that will be conducted on the grass is the 6th, the Crank It Up Stakes. We had some heavy rains blow through the area on Friday night, and with Haskell Day looming tomorrow track officials are taking no chances. Races one, eight and 10 will be run on the main track.

Overnight rains (which were needed, by the way. My lawn is more yellow than green) hit Jersey  and made the turf course "Good" for today, the first of three days of racing, culminating with Haskell Day on Sunday. Not much Haskell buzz up here, although the press box today welcomes the re-opening of the lunch counter, if only for this weekend.

From the Monmouth Park Publicity Office: OCEANPORT, N.J. -- Popular New Jersey-bred Who’s the Cowboy became racing’s newest millionaire after taking the $52,500 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Monday.

It's humid, mostly overcast, but dry in New Jersey, yet that seems certain to change. That's if the radar is correct, as the green/yellow/red blob that is moving left to right on the map appears to be on a collision course with the coast. Whether it passes over Oceanport is any handicapper's guess but I wouldn't be surprised to see us get at least some rain before the Pick 5 starts in race 6, so make your advance wagers with caution.
