Keeneland: Thurs. scratches, etc.

It's been a nice Thursday morning here at Keeneland, and today the sun is supposed to be out pretty much all day, with temps reaching the mid-60s. Local horseplayers better enjoy it now while they can: another downpour is forecast for much of tomorrow and maybe even into Saturday.

Today we've got 11 3yo turf fillies still in the Thursday feature, the G3 Appalachian S. (race 8), and Winter Memories will be favored after finishing 2nd at 11-10 last fall in the BC Juv. Fillies Turf. Tomorrow is the G3 Doubledogdare with Check the Label, while Silver Medallion will try to earn a Ky Derby spot Saturday as one of 6 3yos in the G3 Coolmore Lexington. Two other stakes are on the Sat. card, and then no racing here Sunday because of the Easter holiday.

The first race today had the looks of a nice 2yo dash, but it was gutted by 4 scratches . . . ouch. Otherwise, some pretty nice-sized field throughout the day. Fast Poly, firm turf, first post 1:15 for this 10th of 15 spring programs.

No carryovers in either the 50-cent pick 5 (races 5-9) nor the $1 super high 5 (race 9). Both were hit yesterday for $2,792 and $6,866, respectively.

Here follow the early changes:
