Keeneland: Successful Dan wins stakes-quality allowance in race five

This was quite a good Keeneland weekend for the "Dans."

One day after Wise Dan won the Grade 3 Phoenix, his older half-brother, Successful Dan, followed his sibling with a victory over the Keeneland Polytrack, winning the fifth race in dominant fashion.

Facing a stakes-quality field that included recent Grade 3 Washington Park Handicap winner Gran Estreno, Successful Dan ($4) looked like a winner from the start, racing in a tracking position in hand and easily drawing away from Gran Estreno in the stretch.

The latter gamely held second but was no match for the winner, who raced 1 1/16 miles over a glib Polytrack surface in 1:42.49.

The winner, a 4-year-old son of Successful Appeal owned and bred by Mort Fink, won the Grade 3 Northern Dancer at Churchill Downs last year and most recently had been second to Gayego in the Presque Isle Mile.
