Keeneland: Stately Victor pulls off a stunning Lane's End score

If only all races were run on Polytrack....that would be fine with Stately Victor.

Rebounding from a dull fall and winter campaign in which he never finished better than fifth, Stately Victor rebounded in a big way to win Saturday's Grade 1 Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland Saturday. He raced 1 1/8 miles on Polkytrack in 1:48.69, paying $82.20.

Although somewhat hidden in the past performances, the colt had hinted off a bright future on the surface in last October's Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland, in which he ran a close sixth after being hung six to seven wide for much of the race.

Stately Victor's win in the Bluegrass meant that his trainer, Mike Maker, swept the major Kentucky Derby preps in Kentucky this spring, following Dean's Kitten's victory in the Grade 2 Lane's End last month. Both races were run on Polytrack, with the latter race coming at Turfway Park.

Paddy O'Prado finished second, and First Dude was third in the Bluegrass.
