Keeneland: Sat. scratches, etc.

A ferocious thunderstorm, with hail and all, passed thru Louisville in mid-morning and found its way to Keeneland at about 12:15, an hour before first post for the 1st of 10 races here Saturday, the 2nd of 15 spring programs. The first batch of rain didn't leave any puddles on the Poly, as has been known to happen, and turf racing surely will be a 'go,' barring a lot more. Fairly warm, at least . . . Anyway, nothing we can do about the weather . . .

A nice opening day here yesterday, with Air Support getting up in the final jump to win the $100k Transy by a nose. The wins were well distributed, with only R.Maragh, A.Garcia, and K.McPeek registering so much as a double. No dominators here, it'd seem. By the way, the inaugural 50-cent pick 5 was hit for $7,321 per ticket, with handle nearly $83k.

Not many early scratches on the Sat. card, which features the G1 Ashland S., perhaps the most important prep for the Ky. Oaks. Kathmanblu is 9-5 over Dancinginherdreams (2-1) among 9 3yo fillies.

They're still calling the Poly fast and the turf firm. First post is 1:15 ET. Good luck today.
