Apprentice Marcelino Pedroza Jr. was taken to a Lexington hospital Thursday afternoon for a precautionary evaluation after getting tossed to the ground shortly after the start of the fourth race.

Pedroza fell when his mount, Ready For Success, a New Zealand import making his first start in the United States, ducked toward the inside. He told track officials after the incident that he had some neck soreness, stewards said.

He avoided any contact with any trailing horses, and stood up shortly after the fall, appearing to avoid significant injury.

Ready For Success, a import from New Zealand trained by Wesley Ward, had been making his first start in the United States.

Pedroza was taken off his remaining mounts on the card.
