Keeneland: past the Thurs. midpoint

Email

The 9-race Thursday card at Keeneland started with some bomber payoffs, beginning with the first-ever Keeneland win for trainer Randy Martin, who dared to send out the filly Par Lady (No. 2, 11-1) to defeat 10 boys in the opener. J.Castanon gave the winner a flawless inside trip.

The 2nd was even more surprising when This Way Home (No. 8, 24-1) held off an inside run from Lady Charlie to prevail for trainer Gary Gray and jockey J.Graham. The dime super paid more than $1k.

The 3rd went to a "good thing" second-timer, Mai Tai Mama (No. 6, 2-1 fave), who edged past My Fast One to prevail in $50k mdn-claiming company for J.Alvarado and trainer Eric Reed.

Julien Leparoux, the leading rider at the meet thus far, gave Devil Train (No. 6, 7-2) a confident inside trip before coaxing him through to defeat an otherwise game Ivy Connection in the 4th.

The 5th went the way of Mystic (No. 5, 2-1 second choice) for the HOF team of K.Desormeaux and Bill Mott. They were easy winners of the 2X turf route as the 7-5 fave, Lonesome Street, and was all out to hold 4th.

As nice, cool autumn weather continues to rule here, there are 25 MTP to post for the 6th, for which Senor Dehere (No. 6) is the even-money fave in a full field of first-level alw. runners. The feature today is the $150k Jessamine (race 8) for 2yo turf fillies.
