Keeneland: Opening day is here

It's opening day of the 17-day fall meet at Kee, and conditions could not be any better for a great FallStars Weekend. The sun is supposed to shine Friday through Sunday, with high temps reaching 80 or beyond, when 9 graded races, all of them with potential implications toward the Nov. 5-6 BCup at CD, will be run.

It's been more than 3 months since we've had what could fairly be called major league racing on this circuit, and the fans will be out en masse, particularly Sat., when the Univ. of Ky football team has a night home game vs. Auburn. I'll make the over-under attendance 31,313 for tomorrow . . .

Two of the FallStars races will be run today; 5 tomorrow; and 2 Sunday. The only notable scratch in one of the stakes today is #1 Poof Too who is out of the G1 Alcibiades (race 9), leaving 7 2yo fillies.

Here follow all the scratches as of 11 a.m. ET. Fast Poly, firm turf, first post is 1:05 ET. Good luck today and throughout the meet, which goes to Oct. 30.

Race 1 - #10 Bazine is a first-time gelding

Race 2 - SCR #1 Caspia

Race 4 - jockey is Marcellino (not Martin) Pedroza; SCR #8 Babe's Trooper

Race 5 - M.Mena rides #8 Spiritus

Race 7 - T.Pompell rides #11 All Tapped In; (field of 13 means at least one scratch to come)

Race 9 - SCR #1 Poof Too
