Keeneland: Nina Fever wins second race, a 6 1/2-furlong race in 1:15.02

Gotta backtrack a bit here...because the second race on the card from Keeneland can't go without discussion.

That's because the winner, heavily favored Nina Fever, won the race by blitzing 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.02 - a jaw-dropping time that initially had me thinking there might have been a timer malfunction.

Apparently not. Besides the track timer, the data-tracking service Trakus timed the race in 1:15.08 - roughly equivalent.

In case you are wondering, Nina Fever's timer was just .61 off the track record, and the track, while fast, isn't ridiculously quick.

Making a speed figure for this race is going to be extraordinarily difficult, and don't be surprised if Beyer and company don't estimate a fig for it...because the numbers it would generate for the starters would represent new tops for not only the winner, but probably for every starter in the field.

Irrespective of the time, there is no doubt that Nina Fever ($2.80), who ran for a 30K tag earlier in the meet, is one fast 2-year-old filly. And she loves the Keeneland Poly, as noted by her 3 for 3 local mark.
