Keeneland: McPeek takes late lead in trainer's race

Ken McPeek sent out the 1-2 finishers in a full field in the 5th race here Saturday to clinch a tie for his second straight fall training title at Keeneland. McPeek sent out Jazz Life (3-1 fave, K.Desormeaux) to a narrow, late-running score over her uncoupled stablemate, first-timer Storm Palm (9-2, J.Leparoux), marking his 10th win of the title. McPeek still has two more runners left today, and they'll both go in the next race, the 6th: War Kill (#2) and Orchestrator (#4), who run uncoupled in a field of 7 filly-mare alw. turfers.

With his 10th win, McPeek can do no worse than tie Wayne Catalano, who also came into closing day with 9 wins. Catalano had 2 starters remaining today but scratched Badleroibrown (#6) from Race 7,  leaving Super Robusto (#2) in the 8th as his only chance to salvage a tie.

There are 21 MTP for the 7th, and War Kill (Leparoux) is the early 9-5 fave.

McPeek was easily the leading trainer here last fall with 17 wins.
