Keeneland: Great Attack wins featured eighth race

Great Attack, favored at even money in the featured eighth race at Keeneland, gave his backers a scare in the early stages of the race, falling further off the pace than usual, but proved much the best in the lane, accelerating past the field with a eye-catching display of turn of foot under Garrett Gomez.

He caught pacesetting Calculating Jimmy inside the sixteenth pole and coasted to a comfortable win over Shore Do, who squeaked past Bergerac and Calculating Jimmy in a three-horse place photo.

The winner, a 3-year-old son of Greatness trained by Wesley Ward and owned by Jeffrey Seder's Houyhnhnm Stable, raced 5 ½ furlongs on a firm turf course in 1:04.01. He paid $4.

Prior to running in the eighth race, a second-level allowance, he had been a close sixth earlier in the meet in the Grade 3 Woodford behind Silver Timber, who is expected to be one of the favorites for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs next month.
