Keeneland: Friday update

With a pretty steady rain having hit and run earlier in the day, it's been a pretty formful day Friday card here at Keeneland, with only a couple of minor upsets among the first 8 races. A favored W.Ward first-timing filly named Judy the Beauty ($4.20) was sharp (surprise!) in winning the opener, and then Temptation Bound ($4.60, J.Lezcano) proved superior in her 2nd career start for T.Proctor in race 2. T.Amoss sent out a 10-length winner, Khukuri ($11.20, L.Goncalves) in the third, and then Check Your Soul ($7.20, J.Castellano) needed every bit of the stretch to barely nip off-the-AE Prado Dash in the 4th, a MSW turf route.

HOF trainer Bill Mott sent out a real eye-catcher when the 3yo Empire Maker filly Royal Delta ($5.80, Lezcano on a double) won the 5th by 3 lengths over favored So Much Love, and Envisioning started off the 50-cent pick 5 (races 6-10, carryover nearly $52k into today) by taking the 6th race at 3-1, giving J.Graham his first victory of the meet. Trainer B.Tagg did a great job in getting Beau Choix ($11.80, A.Garcia) to win the 7th off a lengthy layoff, and then Mott notched a training double when Comic Marvel ($8.40, J.Leparoux) rallied to win the 8th.

The turf is yielding for the 23rd running of the G1 Maker's Mark Mile, and with 14 MTP, Society's Chairman (2-1) is the slight fave over Court Vision (5-2) and Get Stormy (4-1) in a field of 8 older horses.
