Keeneland: Disco Troop romps in the fifth, paying $48.20

Easy pace or not, Disco Troop's performance in the fifth race was a beauty. Able to scoot the lead effortlessly in his debut, he drew off in the lane, racing six furlongs in 1:09.41 and winning by 6 1/4 lengths. For those that saw potential in the first timer, who had only moderate drills, he paid $48.20

Granted, he had things his own way, but there is little doubt this colt has a bright future. And being by Songandaprayer, he is bred to like the dirt, more so than the Poly.

The winner, trained by Eric Reed and ridden by Junior Alvarado, won with splits of 22.91 seconds, :46.67, and 57.75. Racing on the lead throughout, that meant he completed his final quarter in 22.74 seconds...

One to watch....
