Keeneland: bombs away . . .

Maybe it was the magic blinkers, or maybe it was just one of those things, but the 57-1 victory by Grey Mist ($117.60, blinkers on) in the 6th race Friday at Keeneland is difficult to explain. The 3yo filly, trained by John R. Dyer, had never even been close in 3 prior starts, yet drew clear with authority to win the $50k mdn-claiming route under apprentice Marcelino Pedroza, triggering a slew massive payoffs while 34-1 Sharp Finnish held on for 2nd in a field of 10. The $1 tri came back $3,600 and the dime super paid $2,551 . . . extremely hard to get to, lest you're playing some kind of number (9-2-3-7, for the record).

Overall, however, the earlier results on yet another postcard-perfect day here at Kee were far more predictable, with Monkey's Moonbeam (7-2) taking the 1st, Sparkling Spirit (5-1) winning the 2nd, Hurta (4-1) leading all the way in the 3rd, Glory Chaser (6-5) rallying strongly under leading jock J.Leparoux to take the 4th, and Kitty Love (5-1) surging to victory under Rosie Napravnik to win the 5th.

There are 10 MTP for the 7th race, a $49k, 1X alw for fillies and mares at a mile on turf, and Forest Uproar (#7) is the 5-2 fave in a field of 11.
