Kee: Back-to-back Poly records fall

How fast is the Keeneland Poly? Well, track records for 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 furlongs already have fallen to claiming horses after just 3 races have been run here Sunday.

Pickpocket Patty (M.Baze on a pickup mount, $22), a $16k claiming mare, won the 2nd race by nearly 4 lengths, finishing 5 1/2 panels in 1:02.99 for a new mark. Some 30 minutes later, Suyeta (C.Borel, $8) narrowly prevailed in the 3rd race, for $50k older horses, when lowering the record for 6 1/2 furlongs to 1:14.34.

We noted in an earlier Internet filing today that Blame went an easy half-mile in 47 and change this a.m., after which trainer A.Stall went out of his way to say how fast the Poly has been playing. Indeed, it has been extremely dry here for weeks, and times being yielded over the synthetic have been substantially faster than during previous meets.

A couple other things worth noting from early on the 9-race Sunday card:

In the 2nd race, Adhsilver, the 11-10 fave, had to be vanned off the track after apparently incurring some sort of injury when failing to finish. The horse was claimed for $16k by owner-trainer Billy Cesare.

Also, C.Borel was notching his first win of the meet aboard Suyeta after an uncharacteristically poor start to his Kee meet.
