Hoosier: weather update

It's nearly 2 p.m. ET, and the skies are still pretty dreary here at Hoo, altho it stopped raining a while back. The track has gone from sloppy to muddy, but unless something really dramatic happens, it appears that the 7-fur dirt track will be off when the 16th Indiana Derby, featuring 3yo pro-tem leader Lookin At Lucky, is run at 6:02 p.m. ET (HRTV). Whether it's still muddy, "good," or even fast, we'll have to see.

There are no scratches in the field of 9 3yos in the Indiana Derby, as the connections of longshot Indy Bull (#5) have opted to keep him in the race and have scratched him out of the 9th race, the colt-and-gelding div of the Hoosier Breeders' Sophomore.

One other notable scratch among the 7 stakes to be run here today: trainer Merrill Scherer declared What About Ruby from the Miss Indiana (race 4) to run the 2yo filly against the boys in the Indiana Futurity (race 6). "It looks like the easier spot," said Scherer.
