HOO: Lookin At Lucky arrival imminent

Email

It's nearly 3 p.m. ET, and Hoosier Park officials are eagerly waiting for Lookin At Lucky to pull thru the track gates at any minute. The champion colt landed at about 1:45 at Indianapolis International, which is about an hour's drive from here in suburban Anderson, located some 40 miles northeast of the Indianapolis town center.

Saturday, when LAL runs in the G2, $500k Indiana Derby, it will be the first time Hoo has ever had a "name" horse run at this once obscure (but now slots-rich) track, and the folks here are pretty much besides themselves. Assuming LAL runs like he should, he'll take plenty of beating in the 1 1/16-mile race. LAL has been listed as the 5-2 fave in a field of 9, but that's patently absurd; surely he will be in the 2-5 range versus an opposing cast that has amassed a grand total of 1 graded win among them.

First post Saturday will be 12:35 p.m. ET, with the 16th Ind Derby, the 12th of 14 races, going at 6:02 (HRTV). HOF trainer Bob Baffert and all 3 of the owner partners will be on hand.
