Hollywood: Sway Away sharp in comeback

Email

Sway Away, who finished 12th in the Preakness Stakes on May 21, rebounded to win a first-condition allowance race in Sunday's sixth race at Hollywood Park.

The victory is likely to lead to another stakes appearance for the Afleet Alex colt, who has won 2 of 7 starts.

Trained by Jeff Bonde, Sway Away rallied from fourth in a field of five to outfinish Da Ruler by a neck. Both Sway Away and Da Ruler were sent off at 6-5, although Sway Away was a slight favorite, returning $4.40. Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Sway Away was timed in 1:21.74, and ran the last furlong in approximately 11.60 seconds.

Da Ruler finished 2 1-2 lengths in front of Sahara Sky.

After an upset win in the first leg of the pick six by Shame On Lily ($27.20), the next three races were formful, with wins by Sammy's A Runnin' ($4.40), Sway Away ($4.40) and Deluxe Bus ($4.80).

Deluxe Bus rallied from the back of a field of eight $35,000 to $40,000 claimers to win by three-quarters of a length over Hurricane Lake.

Deluxe Bus was ridden by jockey Martin Garcia, who has won three races on Sunday and could add to that win total with Irish Gypsy in the eighth.
