Hollywood: Sutherland doubles

Email

Jockey Chantal Sutherland rode the early double on Thursday, overcoming trouble to win the first race on The Whammer ($5) and guiding Lemon Drop Ridge ($13.60) from off the pace to win the second. The $2 early double returned $27.80.

The Whammer stumbled at the start of a $25,000 claimer after breaking from the rail and swooped three rivals to win the six-furlong by three-quarters of a length over Aliza's Dream.

In the second race, Lemon Drop Ridge closed well to win a starter allowance over 1 1-16 miles on turf by a head over Lily's Perfect, the 4-5 favorite who had every chance to win in the final furlong but could not sustain the bid. Lift Our Luck, who led in the final furlong, finished third, a nose behind Lily's Perfect.
