Hollywood: Stute wins 2,000th

Trainer Mel Stute, 83, won the 2,000th race of his career in Saturday's first race with the longshot Score for Fun.

The milestone was identified by track executives during the afternoon. Stute, who spent the day at the races, was honored in the winner's circle before the 10th and final race.

Stute has been a mainstay in California for decades, and is best known as the trainer of Snow Chief, the 1986 Preakness Stakes and Santa Anita Derby winner and the champion 3-year-old male that year.
