Hollywood: A silent 4th race

Email

Saturday's fourth race was oddly silent. Track announcer Vic Stauffer's microphone went dead just before the race started and the race was run without commentary.

There was little noise when the field ran down the backstretch, but the on-track crowd picked up the atmosphere when the field of 2-year-old maidens turned into the stretch of the race over 6 1-2 furlongs. Thirtyfirststreet ($3.20) won by 1 1-2 lengths over Mint Humor.

Stauffer's microphone was restored in time for him to welcome Thirtyfirststreet into the winner's circle.

Thirtyfirststreet won the first leg of a pick six that drew a pool of $184,287.
