Hollywood: Show plunge fails

A $24,000 show bet in the second race on the 3-5 favorite Saddleranch failed when the colt finished fourth, resulting in show payoffs ranging from $8.80 to $22.60.

The race was won by Sinai, who like Saddleranch is trained by Bob Baffert. Sinai ($10.40) finished a neck in front of Chiloquin and paid $8.80 to show. Chiloquin paid $22.60 to show. Master Chef finished third and paid $8.80 to show, while Saddleranch finished fourth in the field of six.

Sinai was timed in 1:08.82 and won for the second time in his seven-race career. He ran in five consecutive stakes from January to May, a stretch highlighted by a third in the San Pedro Stakes at Santa Anita in January.

Saddleranch, the fast winner of a maiden race in his debut on April 30, attracted $24,142 of the $32,029 bet to show, but faded in the final sixteenth.
