Hollywood: Saddleranch shines

Email

The first-time starter Saddleranch overcame a slow start to win a maiden race over 6 1-2 furlongs by 3 1-4 lengths in Saturday's seventh race.

Ridden by Martin Garcia, Saddleranch ($4.80) was pushed into contention on the backstrech and dueled with Just Imagine to early stretch. Garcia asked for a run in early stretch and Saddleranch responded even though he drifted slightly to the inside in the final furlong once clear.

Saddleranch, 3, was timed in 1:15.81. A colt by Vindication, Saddleranch is trained by Bob Baffert for owner-breeders Hal and Patti Earnhardt. Just Imagine, seventh in the Del Mar Futurity last summer as a maiden, finished second, 1 1-4 lengths in front of the first-time starter Ultimate Eagle.

Saddleranch is out of the In Excess mare Excessivelynice, who won three of four starts and was third in the Generous Portion Stakes at Del Mar in 2004 in her only loss.
