Hollywood: PVal off on Sunday

Email

Jockey Patrick Valenzuela took off his final two mounts on Sunday after riding the day's first race, his first mount since being involved in a spill on Friday. He complained of soreness on Sunday.

In Sunday's first race, Valenzuela rode Naughty Mariana, who was pulled up on the turn of a $32,000 claimer after Valenzuela said the 4-year-old filly was off in her hind end, according to track stewards. Naughty Mariana was vanned off.

Friday, Valenzuela was unseated from his mount in a maiden race for sprinters when the horse stumbled a few strides after the start.

In the second race, Valenzuela's mount, Sir Bell, will be ridden by David Flores.

Sunday's first race was won by Church Avenue ($6) who finished a nose in front of Halfapondarosa. The margin was actually more like tihe width of a salt cracker, according to a view of the photo finish camera.
