Hollywood: Pick 5 pays $2,000

Thursday's 50-cent pick 5 returned $2,000.40 after Spud Spivens ($36.80) pulled an upset in a maiden race for 3-year-olds in the fifth race.

Ridden by Alonso Quinonez, Spud Spivens won by three-quarters of a length over Cook Inlet, who was under a drive through the final three furlongs of the race over 1 1-16 miles. Spud Spivens, trained by Henry Moreno, was timed in 1:44.29, winning his ninth career start and second in a route. He was second in a statebred race for maidens over a mile at Santa Anita in January.

The upset by Spud Spivens increases the chances of a pick six carryover, though a carryover to Friday would be approximately $51,520.

The winners of Thursday's pick five races were Tripped the Light ($4.20), Caitie's Secret ($3.80), Real Dream ($5.60), Secret Oath ($8.20) and Spud Spivens.
