Hollywood: Pender claims Baby Blake

Baby Blake won his debut in Thursday's eighth race for 2-year-olds maidens over 4 1-2 furlongs and was claimed by Mike Pender.

Pender submitted the only claim, for $40,000, for a colt who was sent off as the 4-5 favorite and ran accordingly. Ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, Baby Blake ($3.60) broke a stride slow, took advantage of a gap on the rail, led on the turn, and won by 2 1-2 lengths over 14-1 Super Candy despite drifting out in the final furlong.

Baby Blake was timed in 52.67 seconds. He started on Thursday for a partnership and trainer Kristin Mulhall, who purchased him for $3,200 at the 2010 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Baby Blake won the last leg of a pick six that paid $52,716 to one ticketholder.
