Hollywood Park: Zenyatta's raceday morning

Email

Zenyatta spent Sunday morning jogging 1 1-8 miles on Hollywood Park's main track and being walked at the stable in advance of her start in the $250,000 Vanity Handicap later in the day. Zenyatta is after her 17th consecutive victory in the Vanity, and an unprecedented third consecutive win in the Grade 1 race for fillies and mares.

Zenyatta jogged once around the main track early Sunday morning, which is her normal raceday schedule, trainer John Shirreffs said.

"She got out and saw the track and stuck to her normal routine," Shirreffs said.

Shirreffs said days with little change are key for any horse on raceday.

"She'll walk a couple of times and she'll get a bath," he said. "She walks every day at 3 p.m. She'll do that today and then relax for 20 minutes and then put on her bridle and bandages and head on over.

"They have their own clocks in the heads. Certain things are supposed to happen at certain times. We don't want to upset that."

Shirreffs said that he will have a little more apprehension, and anticipation. "I'm trying to be patient," he said.
