Hollywood Park: What a day for Wickedly Perfect, Bejarano

Email

Wickedly Perfect won her debut in Sunday's second race for 2-year-old maiden fillies but not before an incident in the paddock in which jockey Rafael Bejarano avoided serious injury.

Wickedly Perfect became fractious when Bejarano climbed aboard, bucked a few times and unseated the rider. Bejarano's foot became entangled in the reins, and was struck by the filly before his foot became untangled. Bejarano was on the ground for a moment before he was cleared to ride.

In the race, Wickedly Perfect ($7) stalked pacesetter Royal Ancestry for the first three furlongs before taking the lead with a two-wide move in early stretch. The filly, by Congrats, pulled clear to win by 4 3-4 lengths over even-money favorite Romanette, finishing five furlongs in 58.21 seconds. Wickedly Perfect is trained by Doug O'Neill for a partnership.
