Hollywood Park: Sadler's hopes for Sunday

Email

Trainer John Sadler has two runners in Sunday's pick six races, which features a two-day carryover of $514,127.

A win by the $10,500 claimer Simply Put in the fifth race would be a pleasant surprise for the trainer. A win from Dawnie Macho in the $100,000 Landaluce Stakes, the eighth race, is partially expected.

Simply Put won a $12,500 claimer for maidens in her ninth career start on June 9, and starts in a non-winners of two in Sunday's fifth race. "I looked at the race and she's one of four or five in there (that can win)," Sadler said.

Dawnie Macho won her debut at Arlington Park on June 12, and was later bought privately by Gary and Cecil Barber and shipped to Sadler. The trainer considers the Landaluce to be a two-horse between Dawnie Macho and Belleofthebridle, who is trained by Walther Solis and finished second to the leading 2-year-old male on this circuit, J P's Gusto, in the Willard Proctor Stakes on May 31. J P's Gusto returned to win the Hollywood Juvenile Championship on July 5.

Sadler is worried that the transfer of Dawnie Macho from Illinois to California may be one flaw in the filly's preperation.

"She missed a bit of time and the Solis filly may be a step ahead on the training," Sadler said.

Dawnie Macho led throughout her maiden win, but may stalk Belleofthebridle, who has drawn the rail and shown speed in the past.
