Hollywood Park: A 2-year-old to watch

Western Mood, who was as low as 9-5 with 20 minutes to post, scored a flashy win against 2-year-olds maidens in Saturday's 10th race.

Ridden by Joel Rosario, Western Mood ($7.40) closed from seventh in a field of 10 in the final quarter-mile to win the five-furlong race by 1 3-4 lengths over American Wildcat in 58.02 seconds.

Trained by Jerrry Hollendorfer, Western Mood had been working steadily since late April, with several quick workouts in recent weeks.

A $50,000 purchase at the Ocala Breeders Sale 2-year-olds in-training sale in March, Western Mood was the final winner of a pick six on Saturday that paid $23,141. The $1 super high five on the final race returned $863. The pick six began with a $95,018 carryover from Friday, while the super high five had a carryover of $29,995.
