Hollywood: O'Neill's turf horse(s) romp

Moments before Thirtyfirststreet pulled a 21-1 upset in the Lone Star Derby in Texas, another of trainer Doug O'Neill's turf horses won at Hollywood Park.

Boxeur des Reus ($9.60) closed from fourth to win an optional claimer over 1 1-16 miles on turf for 3-year-olds by a nose over Cloud Man, who was upset at times during the post parade. Great Warrior closed from sixth to finish third. Smug, the 5-2 favorite, was fifth, while Nahem, the winner of the $150,000 Snow Chief Stakes here in April, finished a troubled sixth. Nahem took up on the first turn when he appeared to run up on heels of the leading horses.

The stewards conducted an inquiry into the incident on the first turn but ruled that Nahm caused his own trouble.

Boxeur des Reus beat maidens in his debut in England last September but was winless in his next three starts, all stakes in Southern California. Monday's race was his first start since a sixth in the Harry Henson Stakes on April 21. O'Neill said after the race that Boxeur des Rues, a Smart Strike colt, will be pointed for the Oceanside Stakes over a mile on turf for 3-year-olds at Del Mar on July 20.
