Hollywood: No Aggie jokes, please

The career of Aggie Engineer is finally taking off, just as the gelding ends his 5-year-old season.

Trained by Paddy Gallagher for owner-breeder Ward and Roberta Williford, Aggie Engineer beat maidens in his debut in February 2008 but only won his first stakes in the Grade 3 Native Diver Handicap on Saturday at Hollywood Park.

Including a victory in an optional claimer over 1 1-16 miles on Oct. 22, he has won two consecutive races for the first time in his career. The victory gives the Willifords, of Dallas, and Gallagher, an excuse to try the graded stakes of the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting beginning with the $150,000 San Pasqual Handicap over 1 1-16 miles on Jan. 8.
