Hollywood: Mizdirection unlucky

Mizdirection, the 6-5 favorite in Saturday's Manhattan Beach Stakes, was unlucky not to win the six-furlong dash on turf for 3-year-old fillies.

Ridden by David Flores, Mizdirection was near the pace while racing inside, but was stuck in traffic in the stretch behind the leaders and closed well late to finish 1 1-2 lengths behind the 11-1 winner Sugarinthemorning, who rallied wide. With a clear run through the stretch, she arguably could have won her stakes debut.

Mizdirection won her turf debut on May 8 by 11 1-2 lengths in a six-furlong maiden race, and has not started beyond six furlongs. Trainer Mike Puype said that Mizdirection will make her next start in the $150,000 San Clemente Handicap over a mile on turf for 3-year-old fillies at Del Mar on July 24, a race he predicted she would win.

"She'll win the San Clemente the way she ran today," he said after the Manhattan Beach.
