Hollywood: Lucky's punching bag

In recent weeks, Spectacular Slew has been the regular workmate of Lookin at Lucky in the buildup to Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs.

With Lookin at Lucky out of town, Spectacular Slew has a race of his own on Friday, starting from the rail in the second race, a $32,000 claimer over 1 1-16 miles. Owned and trained by Bob Baffert, Spectacular Slew is listed at the 3-1 third choice in a field of five, behind Gilligan (2-1) and Milty Way (5-2).

Spectacular Slew, a 3-year-old gelding, will be after his second win in his first start beyond 6 1-2 furlongs. He beat maidens in a $25,000 claimer at Hollywood Park on June 18 and was beaten in two starts at Del Mar, finishing second in a $25,000 claimer for non-winners of two onn Aug. 8 and fifth in a starter allowance on Sept. 2. He arguably was best in the Aug. 8 race, getting stuck in traffic in early stretch.
