Hollywood: A favorite loses

After favorites won the first seven races, Earnednevergiven ($13.40) pulled a minor upset in the eighth race, an optional claimer over 6 1-2 furlongs.

Hunch, the even-money favorite, could only finish fifth in the field of seven, but did not have the best of trips. Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Hunch was on the rail turning for home, and did not have the best of journeys. He was on the rail for the final three furlongs and was forced to wait briefly in the stretch.

The optional claimer was Hunch's first start since a fifth in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita last December.

Earnednevergiven, trained by Mike Machowsky, was entered for a $62,500 claiming price. There were no takes. The 6-year-old gelding has won 2 of his last 4 starts, and was second in the other two races.
