Hollywood: A day for closers

Three consecutive winners rallied from well off the pace to win the fourth through sixth races, all on the synthetic main track, on Saturday, and not all were favored.

In the fourth race, Joe Carl ($4.40) caught 20-1 Rivergrade Boy at the wire of a $10,000 claimer over 1 1-16 miles. In the fifth race, Slane Castle ($143.80), the longest shot in the field, closed from sixth to win a maiden special weight race by a nose. In the sixth race, favored Galleta Monstruo closed about six lengths to catch Nikki'sgoldensteed in the final stride of a $35,000 claimer over seven furlongs.

Nikki'sgoldensteed was claimed by trainer Bob Hess, Jr., who had the 6-year-old gelding in his stable as recently as May 2010.
