Hollywood: 'Blossom' opens pick 6

Email

Warren's Blossom, unraced since January, had little difficulty making the transition from main tracks to a turf course, winning Friday's third race for fillies and mares over six furlongs in her debut on the surface. The third race was the first leg of the pick six.

Ridden by Martin Pedroza, his second winner of the evening, Warrren's Blossom ($7) stalked the pace, took the lead in the final sixteenth and won by about two lengths over Pincelada. Owned by breeder Ben Warren and trained by Jorge Gutierrez, Warren's Blossom, 4, has won 5 of 7 starts. She won three consecutive races from November to Dec. 31, a starter allowance and two optional claimers, but was sixth in the Sunshine Millions Distaff over 1 1-16 miles on Jan. 29, emerging from the race with a stress fracture in a shoulder, Gutierrez said earlier this week.

Friday's win could lead to a start in a turf stakes at Del Mar for Warren's Blossom, in the California Dreamin' Handicap for statebred fillies and mares in August.
