Hollywood: Baffert doubles

Trainer Bob Baffert saddled consecutive winners in the second and third to take the lead in the Hollywood Park trainer's standings from Mike Mitchell, at least temporarily.

In the second race, the Baffert-trained Night Tide ($3.40) closed from just off the pace to score an impressive win against 2-year-old maidens in his debut. The colt by Malibu Moon won by a half-length over the equally impressive first-time starter A Toe by Three.  Another first-time starter, Bling Cha Bling, finished third, beaten 1 3-4 lengths. The first three finishers all merit respect.

In the third race, the Baffert-trained Toro Bonito ($10) closed from off the pace to win for the second time in her 22-race career. She finished 3 1-4 lengths in front of the English import Wild Rose, who was claimed for $40,000 in a two-way shake by trainer Jack Carava.

Money Lover, who finished last in that field, was claimed by Baffert for $40,000.

Through Sunday's fourth race, Baffert had won 23 races at the meeting, one more than Mike Mitchell. Both have runners later in the card.
