Email

Siempre Esperanza, a 37-1 shot who was the 10th choice in the betting, pulled a shock upset in Saturday's fourth race for maiden claimers, the first leg of a pick six that started with a carryover of $312,479. Bettors added $1,356,444 to the pool on Saturday, and many tickets were doomed after the first leg.

Siempre Esperanza ($76), ridden by Edwin Maldonado-Alicea, was a first-time starter trained by Paul Agurre. The filly, by the Forestry stallion Forest Grove, finished 1 1-4 lengths in front of 27-1 Rags for Ben in the field of 14. Denali Moon, the 2-1 favorite, finished 10th. Denali Moon was claimed for $20,000 by Vladimir Cerin.
